IODP-MI Moving to Tokyo
Following an IODP-MI Members’ Meeting vote that cleared the way for a consolidated IODP management office, Kiyoshi Suyehiro, IODP-MI president and CEO, announced plans to relocate the IODP-MI headquarters from Washington, D.C. to Tokyo.
The new IODP-MI office will be open from 4 January 2010 and is located at the Tokyo University of
Marine Science and Technology (TUMST) in central Tokyo (location). A multi-year
contract with TUMST will allow IODP-MI to maintain offices at the campus until the end of FY2013.
A nonprofit Japanese corporation, Ippan Shadan Hojin IODP-MI, is being established to extend the IODP-MI umbrella to Japanese soil. IODP-MI is modifying the organizational structure and reconfiguring staff and functions in the new IODP-MI Tokyo office to fulfill its tasks and responsibilities while realizing cost reductions and increased efficiency of operations.
The IODP-MI Washington, D.C. office has also been relocated (here). The new IODP-MI Washington, D.C. office will maintain contracting and finance functions. The IODP-MI Sapporo office will be relocated to Tokyo in February 2010.
