IODP has several channels of outreach and communication to bring news, information and science stories from the IODP Expeditions to the community, funding agencies, international stakeholders, press and news media. IODP-MI handles program-wide announcements, press releases, and other activities including managing the IODP.org website and liaising with Implementing Organizations (IOs) and Program Member Offices (PMOs).

IOs plan and implement outreach and communications, and educational activities in their respective countries and regions to meet local culture and curriculum. USIO promote JOIDES Resolution in US, JAMSTEC/CDEX conduct activities related Chikyu in Japan and ECORD organize events for MSP in Europe and Canada.

The IODP Outreach and Communications team issue press releases and provide updates and information on program activities, expeditions, scientific findings and featured news. The team work for program promotion, exhibits management, video and informational material development and website updates to promote understanding of the science that emerges through scientific ocean drilling and to explain how IODP research benefits our society.
