Science magazine introduces Chikyu's new record in News of the Week

Science magazine reported Chikyu's new record in "Around the World" this week.

Research vessel Chikyu, operated by JAMSTEC (the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), set a new record length for ocean scientific drilling: a total of 7768.5 m measured from the rig floor (7740 m below sea level) . The previous record set by U.S. drilling vessel Glomar Challenger was 7,049.5 m below sea level in the Mariana Trench. The news was announced by JAMSTEC on April 27 at  jamstec.go.jp
