Science magazine introduces Chikyu's new record in News of the Week |

Science magazine reported Chikyu's new record in "Around the World" this week. Research vessel Chikyu, operated by JAMSTEC (the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), set a new record length for ocean scientific drilling: a total of 7768.5 m measured from the rig floor (7740 m below sea level) . The previous record set by U.S. drilling vessel Glomar Challenger was 7,049.5 m below sea level in the Mariana Trench. The news was announced by JAMSTEC on April 27 at jamstec.go.jp
