NSF and MEXT met with members of the IMI BOG and the IMI interim President (Paul Stoffa) and Program Director (Jamie Austin) in Austin, Texas to discuss interim planning activities for the IODP. The SPPOC mandate was discussed, as were the number and selection process for committee members. Stoffa reported on the status of a proposal to the NSF from UTIG for interim planning, the timetable for the posting of announcements for the permanent IMI President and Vice President and the schedule for IMI BOG (September 9-10; December 6) and SPPOC meetings (December 4-5) to take place this fall. Jamie Austin reported on projected interim planning tasks and their timetable and what will be necessary to generate the annual (FY2004) IMI Program Plan for consideration by NSF and MEXT.
